How long does it take to build muscle?

Well in my case, a hell of a lot longer than it should have. I was always your average skinny guy, didn’t feel very confident, lacking in self-esteem and just felt kind of inadequate. I’m sure you know the feeling. I’d had enough of feeling like that so I decided to try and build muscle so I could just feel better about myself.

Doing Everything The Wrong Way

When I first started to work out I didn’t really have a clue, I was just doing everything wrong. So then I decided to get some advice from a few of my friends (you know the kind of guys who just seemed to build muscle from just looking at a dumb bell) and they told me stuff like, ‘hey, you’ve gotta workout 5 times a week why don’t you try out my workout regime, it works for me!’ and ‘hey, you should try all these different muscle gain supplements to help gain weight’. After a few months had gone by and I’d hardly had any muscle gain at all and spent more than id like to remember on bodybuilding supplements, I was thinking ‘how long does it take to build muscle, 1 year? 2 years?’ it just wasn’t adding up at all.

I was convinced that there must have been a reason why everybody around me was building muscle faster than you could say ‘ripped’ and I was still looking the same as I always did and feeling even worse because of all the effort I was putting in to try and build muscle with next to no results. People told me its just how I am and to leave the bodybuilding to the other guys, I started to think that way as well and was pretty much ready to give it all up. But for some reason I was still convinced that it was possible for a skinny guy to gain some decent muscle and be able to feel good about themselves.

Finding A Solution

So I started doing some research and found that the biggest problem for us hardgainers is that the information and products out there are all pretty much geared towards the ‘average’ body type and the skinny guys just get sort of cast aside as weak and inferior. That is until I just happened to stumble upon a website by this guy called Vince Delmonte and as soon as I started to read the stuff on his website I was like YES! This is what I’ve been looking for all this time, somebody who was in exactly the same position as me and to look at him now you just wouldn’t believe it. I decided to start on Vince’s program and even after the first week I just felt like I was starting to put on muscle like never before. So if you’re that same skinny guy with no self esteem who wants to start to build muscle like I did, I would highly recommend Vince Delmonte’s no-nonsense bodybuilding program. Just take a look at my pictures to see what a transformation I have made and I am still gaining more muscle every week.

One thing I will say about no nonsense muscle building though, is that there is A LOT of information and trying to learn it all in one go can be a little overwhelming. So if you are not committed to really working hard and learning how to change your body then it might not be for you. But if you just take it one step at a time and try not to rush through it all then you should be ok.

So How Long Does It Take To Build Muscle?

The answer to this question completely depends on how you go about it. Because doing it the right way could take a matter of weeks, but do it the wrong way and it could take months or maybe even not at all. The key is to find the right program for your body shape and size.

  1. Theo,

Good point about how long it takes to build muscle, because just like you said it completely depends upon how you go about it. It also depends upon age, how long you have already trained, etc. The good news for the skinny guys is that they will almost always make progress if they put in the work.

  2. Just simply bear in mind it’s all in a person’s mind what you can achieve and how fast

Good tips. This is a very gradual process. I think the main thing you have to remember is that the higher your intensity levels, the more stress you place on your muscles.
As you get older, muscle weight gain slows down. So you are in the 25-45 year old range then lets limit the dialogue to natural muscle growth, because hormone enhancement adds totally different factors to the issue.
